Concept of Technology for Peace
The Africa Peace and Conflict Network held a presentation and workshop directed by Bob Creo of Mediators Beyond Borders.
The event was held on, Monday, 14 April 2008 at 3:00pm, in the Maltz Psychology Building on NSU's main campus. The
concept of Technology for Peace Media portrayals of child soldiers in movies such as Blood Diamond, are dishearteningly
accurate. Many civil wars today are fueled by child soldiers who are directed by cell phone technology, a key communication
instrument of war. In contrast, women directed by cell   phone technology have acted together and enabled peace talks to be
successful. How can cell phones and technology further their voice for peace and peace making?

The workshop took an interactive approach to how cell phone  technology and video games can empower youth and women to
promote peacemaking and peace building. Bob Creo outlined a platform explaining civil conflicts in the developing world
where technology is limited. The challenge for participants in the workshop was to think  about how we can further utilize cell
phone technology as the core technology component of peace.
